I was diagnosed last Oct with an L5/S1 herniated disc - nasty one too. Had pain for around 2 years on and off prior but it began giving me horrendous pelvic bending spasms. Anyways my specialist basically said as I was active he was advising doing nothing but the exercises I was already doing...McGill floor stuff and hanging 3 x a day from my pull up bar for 1 minute at a time...I even bought some weird harness to strap into which hurt like hell and looked ridiculous. I stayed off the sofas as well for around 8 weeks. Had follow up scan in the February and hey presto the disc had healed and I felt better than I had in years. I thought it was having small kids and just wear and tear.
Had a little bit of pain on resumption of training/running but that was stated as being the scar tissue just touching nerves. The only supplement I took during this period was fish Oils, Vits and MK677. Am completely now pain free and not clear away from being a year without issue (touch wood). My take on this is you can heal and I wish you all the success with this.
