Kitty - Raoul Moat …I’m sure I remember something like that too.  Was it Osagi?

While I definitely agree being 50+ does suck,  I think it’s also fair to assume our higher than average levels of activity have probably helped us to dodge the odd bullet without even realising too, so its probably swings and roundabouts.

Best of luck with the Hip Op Kitty, you’re still young enough for it to be life changing. My wife has had both knees done, and her consultant was very clear that once you establish that a joint replacement will be inevitable, the younger you get it done the better, and the thing that pissed him off the most was younger people putting these ops off until they feel they are old enough.  It just makes recovery harder, and total recovery less likely.

General Discussion / Eddie vs Thor v Martyn Ford vs Iranian Hulk
« on: 22, January, 2022, 17:18:18 pm »
Are you interested?   I have to say I find these all a bit of a joke,  but I’m actually quite looking forward to seeing Eddie knocked down a peg or two now.

As for the Iranian Hulk….this guy just seems like a joke, an internet meme.

It must be weird if you are a real fighter watching these “have a go” guys making more from fighting than you ever will…but then who doesn’t like seeing celebrities getting punched?

What a time to be alive

General Discussion / Typical Dr Z Apple iPad Thread
« on: 28, September, 2020, 20:54:48 pm »
Just bought a bottom of the range iPad 2020, and Posting this here felt like the right thing to do  ;)

All jokes aside, the last Apple products I bought new, were a 2011 MacBook Air,  a 2013 iPad mini, and an iPhone 5C.  I got pretty bored with Apple at that point, as the gaps in features and Polish between Windows/Mac OS and Android & iOS narrowed, while the priced just soared.  Also deliberately obselence  seemed particularly harsh ... and then there was the fact that everyone and their Nan seemed to have iPhones, it all got a little boring.

And to be fair, I have not missed Apple one bit. While the wife and kids prefer iOS, I have been glad to be using Android and Windows.  But recently, the Wife’s iPad died, and I let her have my Amazon Fire HD 10, which suits here purposes of Candy crush etc.  ...and decided to treat myself to a new Android Tablet.

But the trouble is, every review of every Tablet I saw, would come back to the same conclusion - “It’s good, but *obviously* not as good as the 2019 iPad”. -  Weird, as some of these Tablets were £500+, and the 2019 iPad was, like £330?  What strange parallel universe was this, where the best value option is coming from ... Apple?

And then I hear that the 2020 iPad is significantly faster than the 2019 model, which already blew pretty much all Android tablets away anyway!

So, I bit the bullet and bought one,  felt a bit quirky at first but now I have had a good play, it feels like iOS has really come of age, not least because I also picked up the Logitech Smart Touch Keyboard and Trackpad,  this essentially turns the iPad into a little surface-esque laptop, and the functionality of the keyboard is fully integrated, it just feels like you are using a built in keyboard on a laptop.

I am not 100% sure at this point, but I strongly suspect these two items together are going pretty robust laptop alternative that will suffice for 99% of what I do on a computer now,  and the more premium combination of iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard even more so.  Really impressive

When I signed into my old Apple account, I noticed the MT link come up on the favourites bar, and I realised that for old times sake, the right thing would be to post up a review of my purchase on here. These posts had a huge Troll following back in the day, so I hope if any have found their way here, they are triggered in a nice, nostalgic way!

Thanks mate,

Yeah, the triggers are the problem, she had her little nose in pretty much every aspect of my day, everything I did.  Getting up, going to bed, going out, coming home, preparing food, eating it ... even when I do cardio at home (which is pretty much daily) She'd come in and lay on the bed while I did it.
If I sat on the sofa she'd be laying against me, if I went in the garden, she followed ..it just goes on and on.

Also, we got her when my son was 6ish, now 16 ...she spent most of her life sleeping on his bed, only moving to ours when we thought she might die in her sleep & that might upset him. Its like she helped raise him ... he has actually taken it in his stride though, unlike me.

I think there is an element of guilt though, when we took her to be euthanized she perked up and you wouldn't have known she was ill, as it was happening I was thinking "my God, what am I doing to her?" ... I know it needed to be done, because she had started passing out because she couldn't get enough breath in to cough any longer, but all I could think was, that I am the one she looks to for help, and here I am killing her.

Like I said, in the cold light of day, I know it had to be done, but this is where my mind keeps taking me.

Just lost my Staffy, she was 10 and we had her from a pup.

I am totally crushed.  This has hit me harder than anything in my life before, even losing people I loved (I know that sounds ridiculous, but here I am)

Always considered myself to be pretty bombproof emotionally, but this has wrecked me.

Any tips?

What’s going on fellas?
I don’t read the news or watch it either if I’m honest but been hearing all sorts this weekend.

Iran have been pushing their luck for ages, Increasingly aggressively over the last 12 months or so, no one has really batted an eyelid, The USA has finally responded to an attack on their embassy (the last time this happened 52 US Citizens were taken hostage for over a year) by cleanly assassinating their top General. Everyone has lost their mind.

To listen to the responses from a lot of folks, you'd think Trump had shot Bambi.

For all the bluster, I think the only real response is going to be a higher price for oil, and a much better behaved Iran.

Ah thanks!

That's a pain, I was hoping you'd say "As long as you buy an XXX size, you'll be fine.

He is happily running it with the side off for now, but I can't see that lasting.  I wanted to just dremel a slot into the side panel, but I am sure that's not ideal either.

What a pain in the neck.

Thought it would be worth a shot asking on here..

My Son has just upgraded his Graphics card from a GTX 1050ti, to a 1070ti, this one -
https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1070-Ti-ARMOR-8G/Specification

Fitting the thing wasn't quite as straightforward as I was hoping, in that the damned thing was just too big! I managed to get it in (lengthways) by literally cutting part of the case away, however this still means he is unable to put the side of the case back on, the power cables protrude just slightly.

Now, my question is..

Are case sizes standardised? Is there a particular size I could buy and guarantee a fit? Or is it a case of measuring and checking individual case specs? ...and if so, where do I measure from? Side panel to side panel? From the part the motherboard is mounted to? From the motherboard?....see my confusion?

Any help greatly appreciated :)

General Discussion / Re: Amazon Fire HD Tablets
« on: 04, November, 2019, 11:21:18 am »
Last year we replaced the wife's iPad mini with a Fire HD 8, and I have been pretty impressed with it, She loves it.
I intended to put the Play Store on it, but to be honest just haven't needed to, its easy to find .apks for apps that aren't on the Amazon store.  For me though, I do like the Google services, so it will really just be a case of seeing if I can live without them on a tablet. at £70 its worth a punt.

General Discussion / Amazon Fire HD Tablets

Just like old times eh?

Amazon have just refreshed their tablet line up, and are selling some of the previous gen ones off pretty cheaply.  To be fair, they do seem to outperform anything else you'll get at even their RRP Price point, with the one caveat being they run Fire OS on top of an older version of Android, rather than the latest versions.  Google Play store is not officially supported, but easily added I understand.

Anyway, the ones they are selling are officially refurbished, but word is that they are probably just the last of the old gen stock, sent in plain packaging, not sure how true that is but a few people  are saying this.

They are selling the 8" for £49, and the 10" for £79. I used a promotion to order via the app and get £10 off, plus used a Free trial of Amazon Prime to get a 10" for £69 including next day delivery too, but there is an option for Free standard delivery too.

Hope this is useful to someone.

Thanks guys.

All in all I am pretty proud of my 6 months work.
I still find it ironic that I probably look more muscular now than I have in over two decades, simply by not concerning myself with any bodypart other than my pancreas!

Well done mate on turning that around!

I keep thinking about those pics though. You should keep going mate. Loose the chub. Show the world the muscle monster that’s been hiding under there all that time!

(Sorry, not been around anywhere near as often as I'd like, nor updating this Journal anywhere as I intended either.)

Actually, this is kind of where I am now, not so much "muscle monster" ... but I am now, at 6 months in (or will be on 17/10) I am 15st 11lbs,  so that's a total weight loss of 7st 3lb/ 101lbs.  This coming off a half assed Diet break,  I say half assed, because for about at least half of the 12 days I ate less than maintenance.... So I am expecting to drop a few more lbs over the next few weeks.

at my original mid term target weight of 16st, I was not quite as lean as I hoped, I had vascular arms, quads, hams, calves and even glutes!!  but still have literally flab around my chest, back and waist (no, its not loose skin, and I'm pretty sure the chest bit thankfully isn't gyno,  its proper fat.

I am not a naked selfie kind of guy, so everyone in the gym is like "woah, you are lean enough, you don't need to diet any more" based on the vascularity on show... but its the bit they can't see that needs to go.

Weight loss is easy now, like shooting fish in a barrel.  So have now moved my target to 15st ....and if that doesn't cut it, then I'll happily go to 14st.  but that is as low as I really want to go.

But yeah, I have never been a lean lifter,  I have been this close to having abs once before and hated it, but then my priorities were all about lifting, not health, so now I am actually thinking it might be nice to spend a bit of time having abs and condition, and to do it at close to 50 (currently 47, 48 next month) would be pretty cool. So that's what I am likely to do.

Everything about my life has entered a paradigm shift.  Portion sizes are probably quartered, maybe less?

Activity is my choice, rather that before when I looked forward to sitting down and resting, I now get restless if I am inactive for too long.  I look for things to do, When cycling I deliberately choose hilly routes and then sprint the hills, rather than avoiding them, I avoid escalators and lifts, preferring to run up the stairs, stuff like that

For an Obese guy (which my BMI still suggests, just into the "Obese" range) I feel pretty good.
